Mary was the seventh child & third daughter of Samuel & Catharine Procuniar. By 1844 Samuel & Catharine (Miller) Procuniar had provided a good home for their family of six children to live and grow in. They had a total of 9 children. Samuel made his own bricks to build his two story home there in Mad River Township; this home withstood the elements from circa 1836 until the state of Ohio decided to claim public domain 1960s and build Interstate 4 & 69 through Dayton, Ohio and demolish the brick homestead of the Samuel Procuniar family. See photo below: Mary attended a local school in Mad River Township. Mary died unexpectedly on June 25, 1856 at the age of 11 years, 6 months and 8 days. The family story was that Mary was caught in a cold winter snow storm while walking home from school & almost froze to death, & months later on June 25, 1856 Mary died from complications of that terrible ordeal! I find that story a little fishy but I have nothing in writing that contradicts the family story. Mary is buried in the Dille Cemetery on Valley, Pike in Mad River Township, now Riverside, Ohio. Mary's cemetery stone has been broken into pieces by kids over the years but some of her tombstone pieces are still in the cemetery.
Above: The Samuel Procuniar & Catharine Miller Old Homestead (built circa 1835) off Valley Pike in Mad River Township, Dayton, Ohio. This photo was in our family album & was marked on the back with "The First Samuel Procuniar home that he built himself". I have no idea when the photo was taken but I can see a woman on the far left & a child near the right window of the house. It looks like Samuel added on to the house with a summer kitchen to the right side of the house.
As stated above this home was tore down to make room for State Route 4 & 69 through the city of Dayton, Ohio. dcp
