William Bragunier, The son of Daniel & Barbara (Rohrer) Brockunier Sr., born February 19, 1812 Washington County, Maryland. Died on 19 Dec 1904 while living with one of his sons in Emporia, Kansas. Married 1st Caroline Grumbine 1834, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, & eight children from this marriage: Daniel J; William H.; Thomas D.; Jeremiah; Clarence M.; Axean; George W. & Charles W. Married 2nd Lucinda 1852, three children from this marriage: Isaac M.; Samuel A. & Joseph M. William Attended The First Reform Church while living in Maryland.
Right after his marriage to Caroline, William said goodbye to his family & moved to Dayton, Ohio about 1834 & joined his older brother's Samuel Prockunier & David Prockunier who had moved to Dayton just the year before. Samuel later (1854) decided to spell his last name Procuniar which most of his descendents did also. While living in Ohio William spelled his name Procunier on one land deed and Bragunier on another land deed record. Actually William (could not write his name) & singed his name with an "X" . However his wife Caroline could read and write & signed her name both Procunier & Bragunier on other land deed records in Ohio. Caroline kept Williams ledgers as he worked his way across the country. Becoming restless in Dayton or just the urge to live with other family, William took his wife & two children & relocated to Lawrence County Illinois along the Wabash River around 1839.
REF: Lawrence County Illinois Census 1840 Vol. 5, page 174. This census listed William as head of a family of seven consisting of three young boys under five years, one young girl of 10 to 15 years, & an elderly female of 50 to 60 & William & his wife. According to county records, William went security for a man in Lawrence County that resulted in William losing everything which they managed to accumulate over the years, except for a team, their horses and their bed clothing. Ten years later (1850) William & his family are recorded in the 1850 Census of Marion County, Indiana, Franklin Township, page 690, showing two boys, born in Ohio, four boys born in Illinois, & one son born in Indiana. Reported to have bought a home in Bethel on Bethel Pike, five miles from Indianapolis, Indiana. His wife Caroline died in 1851 during childbirth of Charles.
The1860 Marion County Center Township, Indiana Vol. 21, page 66 lists William Bagonier as a farmer with $3000.00 real estate & $700.00 in personal property.
